Οι αρχές της χώρας βρήκαν ότι 36,969 ιστοσελίδες στη χώρα έχουν μολυνθεί, ενώ 40,186 ιστοσελίδες βρέθηκαν να έχουν backdoor στο κώδικά τους. Το Xinhua ανέφερε επίσης ότι 4761 διευθύνσεις IP από τις Η.Π.Α, ελέγχουν περίπου 5580 Κινέζικα websites μέσω backdoor, επιτρέποντας απομακρυσμένη πρόσβαση σε υπολογιστές στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο.
Στο Πεκίνο αρέσει να δημοσιεύει σε τακτά χρονικά διαστήματα τέτοιες εκθέσεις, ώστε να δείξει στους πολίτες ότι είναι θύματα των επιθέσεων του Δυτικού κόσμου, στο κυβερνοχώρο.
Λαμβάνοντας υπόψη το αυστηρό έλεγχο της κυβέρνησης και του κόμματος, που υπάρχει σε όλες τις πτυχές της ζωής στην Κίνα, δεν υπάρχει καμία εγγύηση ότι οι αριθμοί που κυκλοφόρησε την περασμένη εβδομάδα είναι ψεύτικοι.
Ο CEO της εταιρείας ασφαλείας, Charles Sweeney, αναφέρει μάλιστα ότι ο μεγάλος αριθμός των IP διευθύνσεων που φαίνεται να προέρχονται από τις Η.Π.Α και να ελέγχουν Κινέζικα websites δεν αποτελεί ένδειξη ότι οι hackers είναι Αμερικάνοι.
